Lars Michaelsen is one of new sports directors of Astana Proteam, who starts to work with the team from 2017 season. 47-year-old former rider Michaelsen lives close to Copenhagen. He has ridden his last four years as a pro cyclist at Team CSC. He won Gent-Wevelgem in 1995, then in 1997 he won one stage at the Vuelta a España, wearing the leader’s jersey for three days. During his career, he had some good results at the famous monument Paris – Roubaix, where he finished 5th in 2002 and 2005 and where he helped his teammates to get a win (Cancellara in 2006 and O’Grady in 2007). For four times he represented his National Team at the Olympic Games. After retiring as a pro rider, he became a sports director, firstly with Team CSC and later with Leopard Trek and Saxo Bank – Tinkoff. Having behing him 14 years as a pro rider and 8 years as a sports director Lars was able to build up a solid base of knowledge on the top level of modern cycling.
