As already happened yesterday in the inaugural stage, even the second step of the Tour de Pologne 2017 ended with a bunch sprint.
Very high speed due also to the descent road in the last 400 meters, determined a super powerful sprint in which our talented young sprinter, Riccardo Minali, was 9th, immediately after the Race Leader and World Champion, Peter Sagan.
“It has been super fast in the final and I 'catched' the ‘wrong’ wheel – said Minali – when I figured it out I’ve tried to change but it was too late to recover position for the final sprint… anyway, another positive performance, looking forward to the next bunch sprint.”
Another very strong rider at his return to race in Poland is our Oscar Gatto: after his victory in the pologue of the Tour of Austria, in June, Gatto said after the stage: “After Austria I did 15 days of altitude training camp in Livigno (Italy) and this is my first race after that: obviously I’ve missed a bit the race rhythm in these first two stages – continued Gatto – but I think that few more ‘race kms’ my legs will be ready to fight with my rivals…”.
“My race plan is to ride at the Binck Bank Tour, then Hamburg, Plouay, Quebec and Montreal: I’m sure I will be able to do good results, even to return the great trust I’ve add this year from the Astana Pro Team” concluded the Italian.
Tomorrow, third stage of the Tour de Pologne, Jaworzno – Szczyrk (161 km) with an uphill final and four climbs in the second half of the stage: for sure there will be some selection between the GC contenders.
