Colombian rider Rigoberto Uran moved to second place, 27 seconds from the leader. With the same gap French rider Romain Bardet is third in overall.
- This is the race, and such days just happen. Maybe, it was not my best day in the Tour de France, but that’s result for today. I fought until the very last meters, I gave my all to minimize loses. Finally, I was able to lose not too much time. Anyway, I don’t see a big drama in today’s stage. The race ends in Paris. Tomorrow we will have another very difficult stage with a summit final. I will try to recover well today, to come back in the game tomorrow, - said Fabio Aru.
After a number of attacks on the Galibier, a group of GC contenders (Froome, Bardet, Uran) has got a small advantage on the top of the climb to the chasing group with Fabio Aru. On the downhill the gap has increased to 50 seconds, but thanks to Fabio Aru at the finish line his group lost only 30 seconds.
Slovenian rider Primož Roglič became the winner of stage 17 (La Mure – Serre Chevalier, 183 km) after his solo attack from the early breakaway on the Col du Galibier. The yellow jersey group arrived at the finish 1 minute 13 seconds behind the winner with Rigoberto Uran second and Chris Froome third. Fabio Aru’s group finished 31 seconds behind them with Astana Team leader 10th at the stage.
The second Alpine stage of the Tour de France will be held tomorrow: the peloton will ride 179,5 km from Briançon to the HC climb Col d’Izoard.
