In the fifth stage of the Tour of Austria 2017, our young and promising climber, the Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez, attacked on the last important climb, Hochtor (2503 meters on sea level), and we went away from the bunch.
Unfortunately, yesterday’s stage winner of the Astana Pro Team, found some riders from the breakaway that were very tired and couldn’t help in the last 65 km of the stage.
“Miguel did pretty good in the climb, as his condition allow him to do – commented the Italian sport director Bruno Cenghialta after the stage – unfortunately the riders at the front were really tired and Miguel couldn’t help doing all the job by himself because of the long distance from the climb top to the finish line.”
“Anyway, even if he missed the stage victory, he kept the third place in the GC and I think that, after yesterday’s good result, today has been a good day too” concluded Cenghialta.
The Kitzbuhel – St Johann Alpendorf, 212.5 km, has been won by the Australian Ben O’Connor while at the GC leadership is remained the Austrian Stefan Denifl.
Our Miguel Angel Lopez, 15th today at 2:05 from the stage winner, kept the third place in the GC at 0:59.
Tomorrow, sixth and last stage, St. Johann – Wels 203.9 km, hilly but not difficult that should be good for the sprinters.
