- We have considered this stage from the beginning of the race and the main goal today was the fighting for the victory. The whole team did a perfect job today and we can proudly say that this is a team’s success! We controlled the stage from the start, while in the last 10 km to the bottom of the climb Artyom Zakharov, Oscar Gatto and Nikita Stalnov made a huge work to bring Lopez to the best position ahead of the climb. During the first two kilometers of climbing Gatto and Stalnov increased the pace dramatically, making a huge selection in the group. Later it was Miguel Angel, who attacked with 4 km to the top. He could take a nice advantage, enough to win this stage, - explained sports director Bruno Cenghialta.
- I am very happy with my victory, because I wanted to present this success to the team after all good things Astana did for me during last months. I was told, that today is a big national holiday in Kazakhstan – Day of Astana (The Day of Capital City). So, I would like to dedicate this win to all Kazakhstan, - added Miguel Angel Lopez.
The fourth stage of 82,7 km (Salzburg – Kitzbüheler Horn) provoked some big changes in the general classification of the Tour of Austria. Stefan Denifl, who finished second today, became the new overall leader of the race, while Miguel Angel Lopez moved up to 3rd place, 56 seconds behind the leader.
It will be another hard day in the mountains tomorrow: the peloton will pass 212,5 km from Kitzbühel to Alpendorf with 4 climbs.
