In the South of France in the city of Villeveyrac the 2017 edition of the Route du Sud has started this morning. One of the last race before the Tour de France, saw high temperatures (even 37 grades Celsius) and a challenging race route at the shadow of the Pyrenees.
The first stage has been won by the French Julien Loubet, after a long breakaway, first with some other attackers, then alone in the final part. The bunch has arrived at the finish line almost 6 minutes (5:56) after the break. The first Astana Proteam rider has been the Dane Michael Valgren, 18th.
Tomorrow, second stage of the French stage race, from Espace Loisirs Sor et Agout to Saramon, with several hills all along the race route, one of the most important is the Côte de Bezéril at 25 km to the finish line: breakaway or bunch sprint could be the two options.
