- We are here with our leader Miguel Lopez, the 2016 race winner. And, of course, we would like to do well in general classification with him. However, it won’t be easy since he just comes back in racing after eight months of recovering from the injury and we don’t know what to expect from him. We don’t want to put any pressure on him and will do this race day by day. In the same time, we have Pello Bilbao and Jesper Hansen, both coming after the Giro d’Italia in a good shape. They could deliver some strong results here in Switzerland and we will support them. Also, stage hunting is in our plans too. We have strong riders like Oscar Gatto, Matti Breschel and Dmitriy Gruzdev, and I am sure, they are ready to action in this race, - said sports director Dmitri Sedoun.
The winner of the first stage became Australian rider Rohan Dennis, who stopped the clock at 6 minutes and 24 seconds. Pello Bilbao was the best Astana performer with 30 seconds behind the winner.
The second stage of 172,7 km will be held tomorrow in Cham. It will be a circuit with 4 climbs.
