The twentieth stage of the Giro d’Italia saw the Italian of the Astana Pro Team brilliant on the long ascent of the Grappa mountain.
After a first part a little bit staccato by the strongest climbers, he came back to the front and tried the action to anticipate the descent: “When I came back at the front I saw that the GC contenders they were controlling each other so I tried to play my cards, anticipating the descent – commented Cataldo – then I was a bit surprised that nobody attacked at the top, I did the difficult part of the descent all alone and then the bunch catched me back.”
Dario Cataldo recovered one position in the GC and now he is 14th at 23:33.
At least, another attempt by the Astana Pro Team in this difficult Giro. After the finish the relief of the stage 19 Winning Time prizegiving, with Zeits, Cataldo, Tiralongo and Hansen on the podium.
The stage itself has been very challenging for the GC contenders with many attacks and the partial victory to the French Thibaut Pinot, while the Colombian Nairo Quintana kept the Maglia Rosa.
Tomorrow, the individual time trial Monza - Milano 29,3 km, that will decide who will be the winner of this Giro d’Italia.
