The eleventh stage of the Giro d’Italia was a great fight since the first km, as in the preview. Our two better positioned athletes in the GC, Cataldo and Kangert, catched the breakaway and fought until the finish line, finishing respectively 7th and 4th and gaining 1’37” to the GC contenders, including the Maglia Rosa.
Now Kangert is 8th at 3’59” and Cataldo is 11th at 5’19”.
Today’s victory has gone to the Spaniard Omar Fraille.
“We knew it could be a difficult stage – said Kangert – and either me and Cataldo remained at the front since the first km to pay attention to any attack…”.
“In the fast final I saw the three guys at the front they were not far from us and I jumped on them (even helped by a perfect team play by Cataldo at the front of the small selected group, nda), then it was not possible to surprise them before the sprint because we had a bit of wind in face and the road was lightly rising… anyway I’m satisfied because I have recovered almost two minutes in the GC" said Kangert.
Tomorrow, the twelfth stage of the Giro is Forlì – Reggio Emilia, 229 km, with a couple of climb in the first middle and a flat final, very suitable for the sprinters.
A curiosity: tomorrow, for the first time in the history, the Giro will enter in the highway for 30 km around Barberino.
