The individual time trial of the Sagrantino, 39,8 km from Foligno to Montefalco in the centre of Italy, shown the individual conditions of the GC contenders and our Luis Leon Sanchez was fourth at 44 secs from the third.
The ITT has been won by the Dutch Tom Dumoulin who conquered also the Maglia Rosa of the GC leader.
“My condition is growing, as I demonstrated it in the two breakaway of the last week and today – said Luis Leon Sanchez after the finish – this time trial had a race route that matched pretty well my characteristics and I did my best.”
“In the first flat part of the TT I pushed a lot – continued the Spaniard – in the second hilly part I pushed more (smile…), I knew I could have done good and it went so: staying in the hot seat it was a good thing but then these three really strong guys overtaken me and I can only congratulate with them.”
“I’m pretty confident for the next stages because my legs are answering me in a very good way, the Giro is still long and I will try to catch any possible occasion" concluded Sanchez.
Good performances even by the Estonian Tanel Kangert (21st at 2’51”) and by the Italian Dario Cataldo (23rd at 2’53”). Now they are in the GC respectively, 12th at 5’36” and 15th at 6’56”.
Tomorrow, the eleventh stage of the Giro d’Italia, Firenze – Bagno di Romagna (161 km) with four important climbs on it: this is one of the most unpredictable stages of the race where a breakaway could join the finish but even the GC contenders could attack.
