It was flat and very fast 167 km-long stage finished with expected bunch sprint won by German rider Marcel Kittel.
- The first stage of every race is usually super hard and very nervous. All team worked today for our young sprinter Riccardo Minali, who is riding his first year as a professional. We have a very strong competitors here, like Kittel first and Peter Sagan second today, and it is a good experience for him. I’m satisfied with the teamwork, guys done everything to help Riccardo, - explained sports director Bruno Chenghialta.
Unfortunately, Minali faced with several mechanical problems during the stage with the last one at the final part of the stage. Thanks to his teammates, he joined the group, which was driving full gas preparing to finish, but was not able to compete at the final.
Tomorrow is the first mountain stage of the seven-day competition with the start in Modesto and finish in San Jose.
