The winner of the queen’s stage became British rider Simon Yates, who overpassed Australian Richie Porte.
Two leaders of Astana Proteam, Tanel Kangert and Pello Bilbao almost all time stayed in front of the peloton, trying their best for a better result. Kangert was among the riders, who attacked on the second climb of the day Saanenmöser. This group took an advantage of 30 – 40 seconds, but later the peloton could neutralize it.
On the final climb Pello Bilbao found himself in the big group of favorites fighting for a strong result. Finally, he ended the race with a few seconds behind, taking 25th place, +1.03 behind the stage winner.
- In general, I felt quite good from the start. But to the final climb we arrived with a really high speed. I tried to hold my position in front, but the peloton spread in the beginning of the climb. It was too fast. I did my best to stay in front and just before finish lost a few seconds. Anyway, I still have some chances to improve my position in this race. Tomorrow we will have a tough time trial and I hope to do it for 100%, - said Pello Bilbao.
The stage winner Yates became the new overall leader. Bilbao is currently 20th with only 16 seconds far from a Top-10 position.
The final individual time trial of 17,88 km will be held tomorrow in Lausanne.
