The stage was characterized by a long-day breakaway of 7 riders, including Astana Proteam Kazakh rider Nikita Stalnov. The break was able to get around three minutes and a half of advantage, but closer to the finish the peloton caught this group.
- In the morning, we were thinking about stage cancellation because of the snow. But, hopefully, later the weather conditions have improved a lot. So, finally, it was a nice stage with the sun. Another day Astana rider was presented in the breakaway, this time it was Nikita Stalnov, who did a very good race, taking some important experience. The main two stages are coming tomorrow and after tomorrow, so we are looking forward to it, - said sports director Bruno Cenghialta.
Finally, the stage was decided in the bunch sprint won by Italian Elia Viviani. Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev was the best Astana performer with 17th position.
In general classification Fabio Felline still holds the lead, while Pello Bilbao is still 19th, +0.20 behind the leader.
