The Astana Pro Team communicates that in April 18th afternoon the athlete Fabio Aru was visited by the Prof. Combi to evaluate the developments on his left knee, after a first phase of physiotherapy. This examination, originally fixed for April 20th, it has been anticipated in consideration of the good answer from the athlete to the therapy.
The emerging clinical picture describes a remarkable improvement with the left knee now completely dry and no more painful during walk exercise.
The bursitis found in the visit on April 10th is almost completely reabsorbed, although it remains a bit of cartilage suffering.
It was therefore decided to continue the therapies until fully recovering the articulation functionality and try to resume pedaling, even though with a very low initial effort to test the knee response to the pedal movement.
Fabio Aru was on his bike on Wednesday April 19th and completed a workout of about 2 hours without forcing on a completely flat path. His feelings were positive despite the fact that there was still a slight pain in the knee, while pedaling.
As previously reported, as a consequence of this injury, Fabio Aru will not be able to take part at the Giro d'Italia 2017 and his return to the races will be decided by the Astana Pro Team when the injury recovery will be complete.
