Astana Team rider Laurens De Vreese did a very solid race. In the first part of the distance Laurens was among the riders, who tried to go in a breakaway, while later he found himself in the front group, fighting for a good result.
- I can say I am satisfied with my race today. From the start, we had a plan to go in a break, and I spent a lot of energy in attacks. But the speed of the peloton was really high, so all stayed together. Later, I was able to hold a good position in front pack, so I started to work for myself. Tried to do my best, but to the end I was empty because of the attacks in the beginning of the race. Anyway, I finished in front and in sprint I did my best, finishing 15th, - explained Laurens De Vreese.
Finally, De Vreese finished in the first chasing group, 12 seconds behind the winner, taking 15th.
- Laurens was our best performer today, and I am happy with him. He did a strong and smart race, in every moment he was among the best riders and missed just a little to join the leading group. He is strong rider and today he proved it, - said sports director Lars Michaelsen.
The winner of the Paris-Roubaix became Belgian rider Greg Van Avermaet. The race podium was completed by Czech Zdenek Stybar and Dutch rider Sebastian Langeveld.
For some riders of Astana Proteam in today’s Paris-Roubaix it was all about new experience: Zhandos Bizhigitov, Riccardo Minali and Truls Korsaeth have made their debut at the Hell of the North.
- Indeed, we had three neo-pro riders in the roster and we knew, it would be a tough but valuable experience. I think, these guys have a good potential, but they have to learn how to ride this type of races. This Paris-Roubaix was a big step in their professional careers, - added Lars Michaelsen.
