The fourth stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco saw an strong attack by four men, regained from the bunch thanks to the forcing of the Astana Pro Team guys who tried to facilitate the sprint of a selected group by the Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez.
Unfortunately, on the last fall of the day, in the last turn, even Sanchez was involved in a fall and he fallen down to the ground too.
“I have to say, today our guys did very good to help Sanchez for his potential final sprint – said the sport director Giuseppe Martinelli – but the luck has not been on our side!”
The other sport director, Alexander Shefer, echoes the word of the colleague: “We were not lucky but regaining the breakaway thanks to our work, we demonstrated to be a strong Team.”
“At least, our Russian rider, Sergei Chernetckii, kept the front group and now he is 15th in the GC, at only 3 secs from the leader – continued Martinelli – tomorrow there will be a very challenging stage, suitable for the climbers as Sergei… let’s see what we will be able to do.”
The Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez, a part from the superficial peelings due to the fall, has not reported serious injuries and should be regularly at the start tomorrow.
Today’s stage has been won by the Slovenian, Primoz Roglic, who took the occasion after the fall and crossed the finish line alone with 2 secs on the bunch.
Tomorrow, ‘queen’ stage of this edition of the race: from Bilbo to Eibar (139,8 km) with seventh climbs, among which the uphill final to Usartzako.
