The 108th edition of the Classicissima has been won by the Polish, Michal Kwiatkowski.

The race that open officially the season of the Classics, has seen the Astana Pro Team riders fighting for the front position in the crucial points of the race but unfortunately unable to fight for the victory, facing the excessive power of the World Champion on the Poggio and the speed of so many sprinters in the final Via Roma.

“I hadn’t had super sensations all day long – said Oscar Gatto after the finish – nonetheless, together with my team mates we tried to do our best keeping the front position on Poggio and Cipressa hills… then Sagan attacked so strongly on the Poggio and we were hoping that some sprinter’s teams could bridge the gap…”.

“Nobody closed on the breakaway and the final sprint was an affair for the 'mass sprinters' who remained so numerous at the front: not to gain the top 20 is not a good result to me but, looking at the bright side, I’ve had a confirm that my condition is growing and from next Wednesday we will start ride in ‘my’ Belgium…” said Gatto.
