Astana Proteam leader Jakob Fuglsang did a very strong race. Making part of the leading group, he attacked twice inside final 6 km of the climb and finally, finished 6th, 1 minute and 7 seconds behind stage winner, Australian Richie Porte.
- I missed just a little in the final to follow the attack of Richie Porte, but in general I am quite happy with the stage. I tried today for several times – on penultimate climb and later on the final climb. It did not work, but I am super happy with the way I did this stage. I gave my best, I was among the strongest riders, so nothing to regret. I hope to recover well after today’s effort, because the race is not over and tomorrow is another hard day, - said Jakob Fuglsang.
- I think our team did a very good race today. We were active and united around our leader Jakob Fuglsang. Later, on the final climb he tried for a few times and finished with the best riders of this race. The strongest won today and I want to congratulate Richie Porte. But, also, I am happy with Jakob, he is progressing very well and on the right way in this season, - added team sports manager Dmitriy Fofonov.
The new leader of general classification became the Colombian Champion Sergio Henao. Thanks to another good performance today, Jakob Fuglsang moved up to 15th position in overall.
The last stage of the Paris-Nice will be held tomorrow. It won’t be an easy day for the peloton: there will be 5 categorized climbs on a short distance of just 115,5 km.
