- In general, it was a good stage without much stress, so we spent it like a classic flat stage with a massive sprint in the end. Unfortunately, due to illness our rider Laurens De Vreese was forced to quit the race. We hope he will have a quick recovery and will come back soon. From tomorrow, there will be three decisive stages of this Paris-Nice. Astana Team is ready to fight for the highest result in each stage, - said team sports manager Dmitriy Fofonov.
As it was expected, the stage ended with a bunch sprint won by German Champion Andre Greipel. Ruslan Tleubayev became the best Astana rider at the finish with 15th position.
- With 2 km to go I had a good position and felt like I could do a strong sprint. But later at a corner I found myself boxed in. I was forced to stop and to restart again. So, I finished 15th. Anyway, I am happy with my feelings today, my form is getting better. I am looking forward to do my best to help the teammates in the next stages, - explained Ruslan Tleubayev.
The sixth stage of the Paris-Nice will be held tomorrow: the peloton will pass a hard day in the mountains with six climbs on the way from Aubagne to Fayence (193,5 km).
