Today, at the International Circuit in Bahrain was held the competitions in the second discipline of the Championships: the individual time trial of 38,4 km.
Dmitriy Gruzdev did a strong race, showing the best time – 49 minutes and 21 seconds. This result was enough to win the gold medal.
- The start list was divided in two parts, I was in the first one. What why I did not have any reference time on the distance, so I was forced to base on my own feelings pushing on 100%. Together with coaches we did a good timing plan for the distance, so I tried to follow it and everything went well. I felt like I did a good race, but anyway I had to wait a long time to the finish of all rivals. Yeah, I was a bit nervous about the final result. But my time was the best one, so I am really happy to win and to bring another gold medal to Kazakhstan. Now, I am flying home for a few days and after it I will have two important races – Strade Bianche and Tirreno – Adriatico, - said Dmitriy Gruzdev.
Silver medal took Korean rider Hyeong Min Choe (+1.10), while King Lok Cheung from Hong Kong won the bronze (+1.17).
For the men’s team of the National Kazakhstan today’s victory is the second gold medal in a row at this Asian Road Championships. Two days ago Dmitriy Gruzdev, Alexey Lutsenko, Andrey Zeits, Daniil Fominykh, Zhandos Bizhigitov and Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev won the team’s time trial.
