The Abu Dhabi Tour 2017 edition has ended with the traditional Yas Marina Circuit to be repeated 26 times for a total of 143 km.
The unusual aspect of today’s last stage was the heavy rain that incredibly has fallen down from the sky for the greatest part of the race (really unusual in the Emirates).
The final bunch sprint has been won by the Australian Caleb Ewan who has beaten the British Mark Cavendish.
Astana Pro Team captain Fabio Aru ended in the bunch and concluded this race with an 8th position in the GC.
“We came here to do as good as possible but mostly to complete another important step in the training for the main goals of the season – said the sport director Giuseppe Martinelli after the finish – I think we did pretty well, with Aru very active in yesterday’s uphill finish, and we a good work at warm temperature that, for sure, it will become very useful for the next races…”.
“In general I think we can go home satisfied after this weeks in the Middle East with a final podium in the GC of Tour of Oman and a good performance in the uphill finish here in Abu Dhabi, against all the best athletes and climbers of the Grand Tours” concluded Martinelli.
