The second stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour ended with a bunch sprint on the seafront of Al Marina, where the German Marcel Kittel has beaten the Australian Caleb Ewan.
Today’s stage was almost entirely flat all around the city of Abu Dhabi and, after a long escape of 6 men, gave another opportunity to the sprinters.
The young and talented sprinter of the Astana Pro Team, the Italian Riccardo Minali, found some difficulties to keep the best positions in the last km and crossed the finish line in 13th position, immediately behind the contenders for the stage victory.
Nothing important has happened for the GC.
We take this occasion to talk with one of the most expert riders in the bunch, the Italian of the Astana Pro Team, Paolo Tiralongo: “This is my 18th year as a professional rider nonetheless the passion for cycling and the will to do the pro at 100% is the same as the first day – said Tiralongo – here in Abu Dhabi we have a strong captain, who is Fabio Aru, and the greatest part of our energies are focused on tomorrow uphill final of the third stage.”
“Today we went pretty fast for the entire stage and we kept high the level of the attention to avoid any risk to be involved in crash or lose seconds – concluded Tiralongo – everything went well so I think we can say we did a good job.”
Tomorrow, third stage from Al Ain to Jebel Hafeet (186 km), with the uphill final that will probably decide everything for the GC: the final climb is 10.8 km long and presents an 8% average slope in the central 7 km.
