“I have to congratulate with my team mates because they did a tremendous job today – said Fabio Aru immediately after the finish line – I’m a bit sorry for not having been able to get the victory but this is my first race in 2017 and so probably I miss a little bit this kind of efforts”.
“Anyway I’m satisfied because my condition is good and it is growing, so I’m pretty confident about the next races – continued the Italian of the Astana Pro Team – the Red Jersey is in a really great condition so congrats to him”.
Today stage was the Queen stage of the Tour of Oman 2017: the uphill finish on the Green Mountain was a severe test for all the contenders and it gave its verdict: the Red Jersey, the Belgian, Ben Hermans, has won the stage and reinforced his leadership in the GC. Immediately behind his shoulders, at only 3 seconds, our Fabio Aru concluded in second position and, thanks to this performance, he conquered the third position in the GC.
Jakob Fuglsang, who did very good performances during the first four stages of the race and who was third this morning in the GC, suffered a bit in the last climb to the finish and lost several position in the GC.
Tomorrow, the last stage of the Tour of Oman 2017 edition: The Wave Muscat – Matrah Corniche (130.5 km), with a couple of hills in the race route but very suitable to the sprinters.
