Astana Proteam leader Luis Leon Sanchez finished 6th, 35 seconds behind Irish rider Dan Martin, who became the new overall leader.
After two stages Sanchez is 7th in general classification, 45 seconds far from the leader.
- It was a hard stage, but our team did it well. All guys did a very good job during the day, providing support to our leader Luis Leon Sanchez at the final climb. He was motivated for this stage, he knew well the climb. But, attack of Quick Step was really strong. In the last few kilometers Sanchez counterattacked together with other riders to try to get some seconds back. Finally, he finished 6th. So, we still have two more stages ahead, an individual time trial and one more uphill finish. Let’s see what will happen, - said sports director Alexandr Shefer.
Tomorrow will be held the third stage of the Volta ao Algarve – an individual time trial of 18 km in Sarges.
