“As most of times, we did the last 30 km very fast and with so much nervousness in the bunch – explained Alexey Lutsenko after the finish – then everyone wanted to take the final climb in the front positions and the speed increased so much… as a Team I think we did pretty good, taking our captains at the front, me, I took some wind in the face in the last 500 meters of the stage and I lost few seconds (20 secs).”
“I’m satisfied about my condition, in reason of the fact that this is my first race of 2017, my seasonal goals are a bit ahead in the season… anyway I’m there and I’ll do my best in the next three stages!” concluded the young Kazakh talent of the Astana Pro Team.
Today stage has ended quite similar to the yesterday’s one with a sprint between a bunch of selected athletes, as a consequence of the final 2 kms climb to the finish line: the victory has gone to the Danish Soren Kragh Andersen, while Jakob Fuglsang was fifth and Fabio Aru ninth.
Now the GC sees Fuglsang third at 10 secs and Aru ninth at 25 secs, with the Belgian Ben Hermans still in the lead.
Tomorrow, fourth stage of this eight edition of the Tour of Oman, from Yiti (Al Sifah) to Ministry of Tourism (118 km), with three climb to Bousher Al Amerat, the last one of which at 13 km to the finish line.
