The new Asian champion became Sanghoon Park from Korea.
- It is always nice to win a medal for your country, so I can say I am happy with this silver medal. Of course, would be great to win the gold, this was the main goal. New Delhi is a big city and the air is much polluted here. Maybe because of this I’ve got some allergy with cough and stuffy nose and could not show everything I was ready for. But, in general, I think it was a good race for me and I could get a good result. My main specialization is omnium, but I chose individual pursuit here at the Asian Championships. I like this discipline, but in the same time I will miss next two World Cups, so my teammate Sultanmurat Miraliyev, who won omnium here in New Delhi, has got a chance to represent Kazakhstan there. My next competition will be the World Track Championships, while here in India I will have one more race – madison together with Sultanmurat. We will fight for a victory, - said Artyom Zakharov.
Together with Astana Proteam Zakharov opened the season in Australia at the UCI WorldTour event Santos Tour Down Under. The next race for Artyom will be the Abu Dhabi Tour in UAE.
- I am looking forward to this season; I really want to perform well in 2017: would like to do both, to help team’s leaders and to get some personal results. After Asian Championships I will have 10-day training camp where I plan to do some important work, while later together with Astana Proteam I will go to the Abu Dhabi Tour, - added Artyom Zakharov.
