Astana Proteam 21-year-old Italian rider Riccardo Minali found himself in the middle of action in the final of the stage, once again ended with the massive sprint. Supported by the whole team, Minali was able to do a good sprint, taking 8th place. It is his first Top-10 in just started professional career.
- The race went quite well, without any big events. A few teams led the peloton, controlling the break, which was caught in the final part of the distance. I want to thank my team – in the final I had a great support from the guys, who helped me in fighting for the position. Everything was good, but with something 50 meters to go I found myself a bit boxed in, so I was forced to brake and to restart my sprint. Finally, I finished 8th. So, I think, that’s ok for the beginning of the season, but, of course, I will fight for something more, - said Riccardo Minali.
German rider Marcel Kittel, who is leading in the general classification of the race, became the winner of the stage 2.
Tomorrow will be held the longest stage of this edition of the Dubai Tour: 200 km from DIMC to Al Aqah.
