The 2017 edition of the Tour Down Under has ended today in Adelaide with the traditional City Circuit, 90 km, won by the dominator of this year Australian’s sprints: the Australian rider Caleb Ewan, at his 4th stage winning in this Tour Down Under.
The General Classification has been won by the Tasmanian, Richie Porte, winner of the remaining two stages (the two with the uphill final).
The first classified for the Astana Pro Team is the Spaniard, Luis Leon Sanchez, 16th in the GC, at 1 minute and 19 seconds from the winner.
“It ends here another positive experience for the Astana Pro Team at the Tour Down Under – said the Sport Director, Stefano Zanini – in this 6 racing days, we took part at some attacks with Michael Valgren and Laurens De Vreese, who also conquered and weared for one day the KOM Leader’s Jersey, then our captain here in Australia for the GC, Luis Leon Sanchez, did pretty good in the first uphill finish (Paracombe, stage 2) but unfortunately didn’t shined on the second uphill finish to Willunga, even if he always kept the wheels of the strongest climbers, finishing the race at only 1’19” from the winner. For the other our riders in race, a very good experience and a very important work in terms of ‘build the athletic base’ of the racing season that has began here in Australia”.
