On the second uphill finish of the Tour Down Under there has been the second stage victory of the GC Leader, the Tasmanian Richie Porte.
Almost the same situation as three days ago in the other uphill final to Paracombe, with the GC Leader at the front and a small bunch of pursuers fighting behind.
Between them, although a little less brilliant than in Paracombe, there was our Spanish rider, Luis Leon Sanchez, who finished 19th at 40 seconds from the winner and who is now occupying the 16th position in the GC: “I really like this race and really love to participate year after year – explained Sanchez – my condition is good and I thought I could fight a bit more with the strongest of the GC… unfortunately, more today than in Paracombe, when there has been the decisive selection and the strongest athletes attacked, I missed a bit of brilliance and I couldn’t really fight with them but only follow the wheels.”
“Anyway, I think it is probably normal for a rider as I am not to be at the 100% here... looking at the races calendar – continued Sanchez – I have the two focus on the Giro and the Vuelta, helping my captain Fabio Aru, and then I will race in Valenciana, Algarve, Pais Vasco and Belgium… I’m positively looking at the racing season to come!”
The 2017 Tour Down Under will end tomorrow, Sunday, January 22, with the Adelaide City Circuit, valid as stage 6 and measuring 90 km only. In all probability we will assist to another ‘sprinters show’, as tradition in Adelaide.
