“I think we did a very good performance as a team – commented Fabio Aru after the end of the race – I’ve tried at the last lap on the first longest climb of the Varese circuit… unfortunately, I couldn’t take an advantage like nobody did.”
“Then on sprint there were some riders faster than me and I did 9th – concluded Aru – it is a positioning in the top ten that is good thinking to tomorrow’s Milano – Torino and Saturday’s Lombardia.”
Today’s Tre Valli Varesine has been also the last race in Europe for Vincenzo Nibali wearing the Astana Pro Team jersey: “It was my first race after the fall at the Olympic Games – commented Nibali – and I was happy to ride with the number 1, in reason of my last year’s victory here in Varese… talking about the performance, I can say I’m satisfied because I demonstrated that I’ve worked at the best to recover from the injury: I was at the front and this is a good thing to me!” concluded Nibali.
The 96th edition of the Tre Valli Varesine has been won by the Italian Sonny Colbrelli who was able to beat all the rivals up to a 15 men bunch sprint.
Tomorrow, Milano – Torino from San Giuliano Milanese to the uphill finish on Torino Superga hill. Last year, our rider Diego Rosa won and Fabio Aru was third.
