The Colle San Luca on the top of the Bologna city hill has been the judge as always in the history of the Giro dell’Emilia. The 99th edition of the Italian Classic saw the victory of the Colombian Esteban Chaves and a good performance by our Fabio Aru, 4th on the finish line.
The good performance of the captain had crowned the excellent work of the Astana Pro Team guys who did the 99% of the effort to catch the fugitives, just at the start of the fifth and last climb to San Luca.
“I’m not completely satisfied about my 4th position here in San Luca – commented Fabio Aru after the finish – I attacked in the toughest point of the climb, the ‘Orfanelle curve’ but probably it was too early and Chaves was able to overtake me on the final more flat at 200 meters from the finish…”.
“Anyway, I’m very happy about the great work that all my team mates did today for me and I have really to thank them for this… Looking at the positive side of the medal, I’m confident we will be able to do good things in the last races of the season next week!” concluded Aru.
