Yesterday 20 km up North from Milan it was held one of the most prestigious races of the Italian calendar. The Coppa Agostoni saw at the start a competitive Astana Pro Team, captained by the Italian Fabio Aru.
The race route, with a very tough circuit in the middle (including 12 climbs), had a flat final part (the last 40 km) that didn’t facilitate the attackers in trying to win the race at the conclusion of an escape.
Nonetheless, Fabio Aru tried to make the difference on the Colle Brianza, attacking two times and escaping with the other Italian Gianni Moscon.
“Despite the heavy rain that accompanied us in the first part of the race, I had good sensations – explained Aru – and I attacked in the 3rd and 4th climb to Colle Brianza… together with Moscon and some other riders we create a small gap but the problem was that the flat final facilitated the come back of the sprinter’s teams…”
“Anyway, I’m satisfied about my condition and I’m confident about the European Championship of the next Sunday 18th and for the races of the coming weeks” concluded Aru.
The 70th Coppa Agostoni – Giro delle Brianze has been won by the Italian Sonny Colbrelli who beated the other Italian Diego Ulissi in a 40 selected men bunch sprint.
