Young Kazakh rider Yuriy Natarov once again did a good race, showing his increasing form in this first race of the restarted season. Today Natarov finished 34th, while in the overall standings he closed the Top-30.
The Colombian rider Ivan Sosa won the fifth stage after his solo attack not far from the top of the climb. The Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel became the overall winner of the Vuelta a Burgos 2020.
- We came here with some ambitions to try to take a good start of the second part of the season. Alex Aranburu looked really good and, by my opinion, he is in good form. With a bit more luck he could reach something important in one of two stages, which suited him here. Anyway, I think, he will have more chances in the following races. Also, we wanted to see the progress of our young riders as Oscar Rodriguez, Yuriy Natarov and Rodrigo Contreras. Indeed, the level of this year’s Vuelta a Burgos is really high, and it was not easy to compete with these big riders, who came here, but we can be optimistic about the next races. We did a big amount of work at the training camps and here at the first race, so we will keep on working and the results will come, - said Stefano Zanini, sports director of Astana Pro Team.
