Gree-Tour of Guangxi. Stage 5. Another bunch sprint done in Guilin
It was another day for the sprinters at stage 5 of the Tour of Guangxi, but there were attacks on the final climb of the day when the initial breakaway got caught. A select group, with the Astana riders pulling, tried to stay clear from the rest of the bunch towards the finish. But in the end, there was a reduced peloton, and Fernando Gaviria sprinted to his second stage win in this Tour of Guangxi. Davide Ballerini finished twelfth. Jonas Gregaard crashed on the descent of the final climb, but he has no serious injuries and is able to start on tomorrow’s final stage. Enric Mas is still the overall leader, Davide Villella is still ninth.

- We tried to force something in today’s final, and we had most of our riders in the first group after the final climb. We pulled and tried to stay clear from the group with the sprinters, but eventually, most of the peloton came back together. Then Davide Ballerini tried to do a good sprint, but all the sprint favorites were there to battle for the bunch sprint. Tomorrow is the final day of the season and, of course, we will try again to go for a good result here in China, - said sports director Lars Michaelsen.
Tomorrow’s stage 6 is the final stage of the Tour of Guangxi and will have the start and finish in the city of Guilin, covering 168,3 kilometers.
