Indeed, after the main group caught back the daily break it looked that everything will be decided in sprint, but a massive crash inside the last kilometer ruined the plans of many teams. However, a few sprinters still remained in front, avoiding the crash: the Irish rider Sam Bennett took the stage win ahead of Maximiliano Richeze and Tosh Van Der Sande.
No one of Astana Pro Team riders was involved in the crash, Miguel Angel Lopez and his teammates ended this day safety.
- Not an easy stage at all with many short climbs and high pace as the sprinter teams chased the breakaway furiously. Our team did a good job protecting Miguel Angel Lopez and for us everything ended well. Fortunately, all our riders have avoided the crash in the final and finished without troubles. We are coming into the two super hard days in the mountains and our team will do its best to help Miguel Angel to do a comeback in the general classification, - said Dmitri Sedoun, sports drector of Astana Pro Team.
Due to a crash inside the final km, the time differences were neutralized and, thus, the general classification did not get any serious change: Primoz Roglic is the leader, Alejandro Valverde is second (+2.25), Tadej Pogacar is third (+3.01) and Miguel Angel Lopez is fourth (+3.18).
Stage 15 will be held tomorrow: it will be a 154.4-km-long distance from Tineo to the top of the first category climb Santuario del Acebo. Totally, four climbs of the first category will be in the daily menu.
