- It was our goal today to make it in the breakaway, so I decided to attack, and we took off with a small group. It was good for me to make this effort and a nice way to show our colors at the front of the race. But due to the hard wind and losing one of the breakaway riders with a mechanical, we knew it would be hard to keep the advantage on the peloton that started to chase. It was a nervous day, with some crashes. After we got caught, I was involved in a crash but without any serious injuries. I returned in the peloton and tried to get Davide Ballerini in a good position, but he got blocked by a crash in the final. Now we look forward to tomorrow, where I will work as hard as possible for Davide Ballerini and Manuele Boaro, as I think they can have a strong race tomorrow, - said Laurens De Vreese.
With start and finish in Aalter, covering 166,6 flat kilometers, stage 3 of the BinckBank Tour suited the sprinters. De Vreese and three other riders decided to attack, but the peloton didn’t let them go until the final. With more than 70 kilometers to go, they got caught by the peloton. Another small breakaway was formed, but in the end, everything came back together for another bunch sprint. A photo finish decided that Sam Bennett took his third win in front of Dylan Groenewegen, still leading the race overall.
Stage 4 will lead the peloton into the Ardennes, with start and finish in Houffalize, covering 96,2 kilometers over an intense course with multiple climbs.
