- For all the riders it was a difficult stage. Yesterday it was very hot, and many riders really suffered because of this heat. Besides, today at the start we had +350С, while at the finish the temperature fell down to just +150C. It impacted a lot to the riders. The stage route was quite hard with a few very tough climbs, including the final one. However, our young riders showed themselves very well: Yuriy Natarov and Jonas Greggard tried their best to stay in front as long as possible following the best riders of the race. For them it was a great experience. In the end of the day, Natarov dropped a bit earlier, while Gregaard was able to stay in the leading group almost until the final kilometers and only then he switched on his own pace. Anyway, he could finish quite high. Unfortunately, Davide Ballerini was forced to quit the race today. He rode around 100 km and after that abandoned the race due to sickness – he had a fever. Still two stages are ahead, these stages will suit us better. So, once again we will give a chance to our young riders to do their own race and will try to do our maximum in this Adriatica Ionica, - said Giuseppe Martinelli, sports director of Astana Pro Team.
Padun became the new overall leader of the race, while Jonas Gregaard Wilsly moved up to 11th position (+6.48). Yuriy Natarov is 23rd (+21.25).
Stage 4 from Padola to Cormons/Monte Quarin will be held tomorrow.
