- Overall, it went quite good today. I was feeling good, but the hard accelerations in the last two kilometers killed me a bit and I had to pay for that. In the final part, I really suffered, but I was not the only one. It was the first big test and the first time where the GC guys really had to battle it out. It could have been worse for me today, but of course, it can always be better. There are more days like these coming up and I’m still hoping to do something great in this Tour, we will see what will happen, - said Jakob Fuglsang.
- It was quite a good day today, especially after the hard ITT of yesterday. Jakob Fuglsang managed it very well on the Tourmalet today, he lost some time but not a lot and we’ve seen many other riders in difficulties as well. We now moved up in the overall classification and I think the race is still open. There are still many hard days coming up, so I still expect an interesting race, - said sports director Dmitriy Fofonov.
Stage 14 of the Tour de France started in Tarbes to finish on the Tourmalet after 177,5 kilometers of racing. Luis Leon Sanchez made it into the day’s breakaway of sixteen riders, but just after the start of the final climb, all escapes got caught by the peloton. On the challenging climb of the Tourmalet, the peloton reduced to a select group of GC favorites. Jakob Fuglsang was competing with the best but had to drop in the final two kilometers of the race. He still finished tenth, within a minute on winner Thibaut Pinot. Julian Alaphilippe is still leading the Tour de France, Jakob Fuglsang is now eighth on 5’22” of Alaphilippe.
Another day in the Pyrenees coming up tomorrow, as stage 15 will go from Limoux to the summit finish on Foix (1st category).
