- Today was a fast but easy day for the team. We will try to do some good sprints with Yevgeniy Gidich in the first four stages of this Tour of Norway, but it won’t be easy for the team, as there are some strong sprinters in this race as we’ve seen today. The final two stages will be more suited for our riders, as there will be more climbing and opportunities for attacks in the final. With Luis Leon Sanchez we have a strong leader in this race who could be up there with the best in this race, - said sports director Bruno Cenghialta.
Stage 1 of the 2019 Tour of Norway started in Stavanger to finish in Egersund after 168,2 kilometers of racing. The day’s breakaway was not able to stay in the front in today’s final, as the bunch prepared a bunch sprint. Cees Bol was the fastest sprinter as he won the stage and will start as the overall leader at stage 2. Yevgeniy Gidich was the fastest Astana Pro Team rider, finishing fifteenth.
Tomorrow the riders face 174 kilometers from Kvinesdal to Mandal, with a profile that suits the sprinters.
