Giro d’Italia. Stage 8. A day for sprinters ahead ITT in San Marino
Day by day, the Giro d’Italia is approaching to its decisive phase. Tomorrow, the race will face the second individual time trial this year – a 34.8-km-long race from Riccione to San Marino. For sure, this stage will have a big impact over the situation in the general classification, currently led by the Italian Valerio Conti.

While today, at stage 8 (Tortoreto Lido – Pesaro, 239 km) the peloton spent quite a calm day, ended with a bunch sprint, won by Caleb Ewan and followed by Elia Viviani and Pascal Ackermann. Astana’s leader Miguel Angel Lopez without any problem finished in the main group.
- We have expected that the day will end with a sprint. The only worrying moment was the weather forecast, which predicted a heavy rain at the finish. With a hard technical descent inside the last 10 km, the final could be really dangerous. But, today we were lucky since the rain began just after the finish. So, for us it was a good day, we kept Miguel Angel out of troubles. Now, all focus on tomorrow’s time trial in San Marino, - said Alexandr Shefer, sports director of Astana Pro Team.
