The Sicilian champion had a double fracture of the left collarbone. The fracture near the sternum was incomplete and thus has not been subjected to any treatment, while the distal one - near the acromion clavicular joint - has been surgically reduced with the application of a metal plate.
Recovery times are to be evaluated. The winner of the last Giro d’Italia will remain at complete rest for at least ten days and then resume activity gradually.
If the post-operative course will be favorable, Vincenzo Nibali should be released tomorrow.
