For any pro cyclist, a national title is a career milestone and a source of pride. Therefore, a National Champion bike should really stand out in the peloton. While our design goal was to make “flamboyant” custom painted bikes, we also wanted to respect certain design criterias. This is why the two gradients introduced earlier this year in the Nitrogen Disc artwork are also present on the national champion bikes. It allows us to create two iconic and distinctive framesets while keeping a connection to other Astana team bikes.
Alexey Lutsenko, Kazakh Road Champion’s bike sports the now iconic and historic Astana teal blue, emblematic of the team and its origins. The sun and the eagle, both strong graphic elements of the Kazakh flag also adorn Alexey Lutsenko’s frameset. This vibrant bike represents exactly what a national champion ride should be.
It is a privilege for Argon 18 to design a bike for Gorka Izagirre, the latest in a lengthy list of great Spanish National Road Champions. Izagirre will now ride a Gallium Pro custom painted with traditional Spanish colors. Considering the origins of Gorka, we also integrated the Lauburu, Basque cross, on the top tube of the frame.
We look forward to seeing these bikes in action at the Itzulia Basque Country and other races.
