- It was not an easy day for us, as we had some bad luck with our start time. We had to race the wet roads, I’m sure we could have been 20 to 30 seconds faster if we had the same roads as the teams who were starting behind us. But nevertheless, the team performed well and did their maximum effort today. We’re improving our time trial skills, and we would’ve liked to show this with a good result today. But we can’t blame anyone, we just have to focus on the days to come and try to go for a maximum result, - said sports director Bruno Cenghialta.
The traditional opening TTT of the Tirreno-Adriatico started on wet roads due to heavy rainfall in the morning. As the first teams rolled down the ramp, the rain stopped and clear skies appeared. Astana Pro Team finished after a challenging TTT in a time of 23’38”, worth a thirteenth place at the end of the day. Mitchelton-Scott was the fastest team of the day, finishing in 22’25”, just in front of Team Jumbo-Visma and Team Sunweb.
Tomorrow at stage 2 the riders will have an uphill finish after 195 kilometers of racing from Camaiore to Pomarance.
