- We had Yuriy Natarov in the front of the peloton to control the race and to chase the breakaway. In the final, there was a quite hard, short uphill, so I did my best and finished in the top 10. With just 100 meters to go there was a crash and our Merhawi Kudus was involved, so he couldn't finish really high and to fight for the stage. But, it is ok for the first day. Let's see what happens in the next days, - said Nikita Stalnov.
The first stage was 112.5 kilometers long with start and finish in Kigali. A breakaway of five riders took off and managed to stay in the front until today’s final. In the final, a select group sprinted for the stage victory, with Alessandro Fedeli as the stage winner and with Nikita Stalnov finishing tenth. Merhawi Kudus was involved in a crash but will continue the race tomorrow. Tomorrow, the race will go from Kigali to Huye over 120.3 kilometers.
