Milano-Torino. Miguel Angel Lopez takes second in dramatic final

A crash with 1 km to the finish of Milano-Torino has stopped attack of Miguel Angel Lopez. In a moment when the Astana rider decided to attack, the French rider David Gaudu touched Lopez and both immediately hit the desk. The leader of Astana Pro Team came back in the race, trying to catch Thibaut Pinot, who made an attack right in that moment, but it did not work. Pinot won the race, while Miguel Angel Lopez finished second. The race podium was completed by the World Champion Alejandro Valverde.

- Of course, I am dissapointed because I felt great today and I had legs to win this race. It was a moment when I went a bit in front preparing my attack. I just thrown a quick glance to Valverde and in the next moment I found myself on the floor. It was a bad coincidence, nothing to do. I tried to come back on the bike as soon as possible, but I could not catch Pinot anymore. Yeah, it was my last race of the season and I'd like to finish it with a victory. But anyway I am happy I reached a podium place atop Superga since I like this race really much. Today we did a very nice race with the whole team and also Jakob Fuglsang was really strong. I wish our team a good luck in last two races here in Italy, especially, at Il Lombardia, - said Miguel Angel Lopez.

Astana Pro Team did a very solid Milano-Torino. In the first part of the race, the riders of Astana did their best to support Miguel Angel Lopez and Jakob Fuglsang. At the first pass of Superga hill Astana increased the pace in the group, producing a selection in the peloton. Closer to the top of the climb new attacks split the main group in parts, while Lopez and Fuglsang were able to stay in front.

Before the final climb Jakob Fuglsang made a strong attack to go in a break together with two more riders. Fuglsang stayed in front of the race until 2 km to go, when a new group with Lopez came across him.

In the end of the day, the podium of Milano-Torino has beed decided by this group.
