- I can be happy with my race today. Usually, I don’t feel good in San Sebastian and I am always suffering here after a traditional break in the middle of summer. But, this time everything went much better. After a small rest after the Giro and the Dauphiné in July I did a big amount of work, so today this work paid me off. Let’s see how it will be at the Vuelta a Burgos, - explained Pello Bilbao.
At the final climb of the day Alto de Murgil Omar Fraile attacked after a fantastic work of the whole Astana Team. Later this attack was neutralized. In the final the French rider Julian Alaphilippe took the race win ahead of Bauke Mollema. Anthony Roux closed the daily podium with third place.
- Our team did a very good race, and this is the main result for us. Except Omar Fraile, all the riders had their first racing day after a very long break. We wanted to see the level of the team ahead of the second part of the season. I can say we looked solid. Our next goal is the Vuelta a Burgos. In the final part of the race there was a huge crash with many riders involved. Fortunately, we have passed this race without loses, - added sports director Dmitri Sedoun.
