- It was a very hard and long stage. There was a high pace in the peloton from the beginning of the first climb at 60 km from the start. It was hard for everyone. We stayed in a main group after the first mountain with Luis Leon Sanchez and Sergey Chernetski. Our goal was to attack at the descent because of strong side wind, and Luis Leon attacked. It’s a pity he was caught only 200 meters before the finish. I was in a group with our guys, Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev also joined us. At the final sprint, I felt strong but unfortunately a rider from another team closed me in, finally, I was fourth. Totally, I’m satisfied with this race, it was a long time I didn’t have any races because of a crash. Now my condition is growing. The team did a very good job! – Yevgeniy Gidich.
- I think I performed well today, I was motivated to do a good stage after yesterday. When I went away with Valverde, I was motivated to fight for a stage as well as for a place on the podium in the GC. We worked hard all day, pushed for 100%, but a big group was chasing us. We missed a few hundred meters for a stage victory, but after all it was a good test for me. I feel really good and I hope to improve even further before the Tour. Now I will have a small rest to recover a bit, after I will go for the Nationals and the Tour de France. – Luis Leon Sanchez.
The final stage of Route d’Occitanie, with 192,7 kilometers from Mirepoix to Cazouls-lès-Béziers. Luis Leon Sanchez attacked together with Alejandro Valverde and they almost made it to the finish line. But Sanchez got caught with only 200 meters to go, and it was Yevgeniy Gidich who took a fourth place in the bunch sprint behind winner Anthony Roux.
Luis Leon Sanchez finished fifth in the general classification, Alejandro Valverde won Route d’Occitanie.
