- It was not an easy day today with two third category climbs. At the finish, our guys spent a lot of power to chase down the breakaway. In the final, I had only Luis Leon Sanchez left to help me. The team worked for 100% to get me in the right position. At the final sprint, I didn’t find this right position, so I finished only sixth. Anyway, I’m in a very good condition, and we will fight at the next stages. Tomorrow is a flat stage and the third stage is a mountain stage, where we can show something for sure.– Yevgeniy Gidich.
Stage 1 of Route d’Occitanie, the peloton started in Cap-Découverte to finish in Ségala Carmaux after 168 kilometer of racing. The day’s breakaway was not able to stay clear in the final, so there was a sprint in the streets of Ségala Carmaux, won by Nacer Bouhanni. Kazakh rider Yevgeniy Gidich took a sixth place.
Tomorrow the riders will start at the second stage of this 4-day-stage race. It will be a 173-kilometer-long stage from St. Gaudens to Masseube Val-de-Gers.
