- The team did a great job to put me in the right position when we were going into the final, but after a difficult turn in the final kilometres I lost this position. So I already had to do a few sprints to get back in the first part of the peloton, but just when I got back in this position, the final sprint started and I didn’t had the legs anymore. Too bad, because I had a good feeling after yesterday. The next days it’s up to other riders in our team, maybe there’s a chance for a sprint again on Sunday,- told Riccardo Minali.
Racing a 150.4 kilometers from Lochristi to Knokke-Heist, with the same situation like yesterday at stage 1: a breakaway (5 riders this time) that is able to stay clear until the final, just before the sprint teams start to prepare the sprints. Just before going in the final local lap, the peloton caught the day’s break.
With only 10 kilometers to go, Astana Pro Team once again brought sprinter Riccardo Minali to the front. But in the final kilometer of the stage, he was not able to make the jump for a podium, finishing tenth behind winner André Greipel.
Tomorrow the riders will face a short individual time trial of 10 kilometers, through the streets of Bornem.
