Astana’s leader Pello Bilbao did a very good TT, losing only 1 minute 11 seconds to the stage winner and new overall leader Primoz Roglic, holding a place in the Top-10 of the general classification.
- I am pretty happy with my TT today. I felt good in the morning during the recon and later in the race. The first part of the distance was quite exhausting and at the midway I felt myself a bit tired, but later I changed my rhythm and caught a second breath. So, in the final I could do my best. I am not a TT specialist, but today I think, I did it pretty well and I am still in the fight for a good placement in the general classification. We still have two tough days with a lot of mountains and every stage could be a crucial for the final result, - explained Pello Bilbao.
The Kazakh TT champion Zhandos Bizhigitov opened this time trial for Astana Team, for a few minutes taking the provisional lead with the best time. But soon it was Patrick Bevin, who marked the new best time. Bevin had to wait on the hot seat for a very long time until Primoz Roglic finished, beating him for 9 seconds to win this stage. The Belarus rider Vasil Kiryienka took the third place in today’s stage, 11 seconds behind the winner.
Pello Bilbao finished 27th, 1 minute 11 seconds behind Roglic. But it was enough to hold a Top-10 spot in the overall. After four stages Bilbao is 8th in the general classification, 1 minute 57 seconds far from the leader.
Stage 5 of the Itzulia Basque Country will be held tomorrow: the race will come back in the mountains with a 164,7 km distance from Vitoria to Eibar.
